This year students in third, fourth, and fifth grades will be taking the STARR test or "State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness". The rigor and complexity of the test has been been increased from the TAKS test. It is the intent of TEA or Texas Education Administration to ensure that all students are receiving instruction which prepares them for post secondary studies.
The testing schedule has been published on the school calendar, which is available on the EPISD website which is www.episd.org. Please check the dates so that you can schedule any doctor or dentist appointments around them. It is essential that every student be present for testing as attendance and participation are counted in "Accountability Ratings".
For further information you can access the Texas Education Administration website. The URL is www.tea.state.tx.us. On the left hand side you will find the heading Testing and Accountability. Click on this and then click on STAAR. This will provide you with additional information
